DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates has awarded Prime Minister Imran Khan the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award for winning the 1992 World Cup, reported Gulf News on Tuesday.
“Premier Imran Khan has been given the award for his contribution to sports, including leading his country’s cricket team to win the 1992 Cricket World Cup. He was declared International Sports Personality,” said the UAE-based publication.
The publication said that the ceremony for the eleventh edition of the awards was held on Monday at Deep Dive Dubai. The ceremony was held in the presence of Chairman of Dubai Sports Council Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed and Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Mattar Al Tayer.

Following the publication of the story, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Senator Faisal Javed Khan also shared it.

The PTI leader said that the award “honours individuals with remarkable achievements in their lives and contributions globally”.

In the 1992 World Cup, under the leadership of Imran Khan, Pakistan beat England by 22 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to give the country its sole title at the mega event.
