Man swindled out of Rs5 million through fake dollars

KARACHI: Police on Tuesday arrested two men for selling counterfeit dollar notes for Rs5 million in Karachi.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Malir Irfan Bahadur said the victim Fahd Islam worked in Iraq and had come on holiday.

When Bahadur went to get a haircut later, the barber apprised him that his friend was selling cheap dollars.

Bahadur told the police that he was given two genuine $50 notes in the first meeting by the man, identified as Anwar Chandio, and he was promised that they would give him 30,000 dollars for Rs5 million. Fahd was told that he would get Rs0.28 million profit through the deal.

At the time of dealing, Fahd Islam was handed over three bundles of fake $50 notes. Seeing a police mobile, Fahd started crying for help. Meanwhile, Chandio, a woman and a driver fled with the cash.

SSP Malir said the barbers Rajab and Mahboob, who had facilitated the deal, had been arrested.

Police have launched an investigation against the suspects after lodging an FIR in the case.
