Maryam Nawaz’s counsel seeks adjournment of appeal in Avenfield reference

ISLAMABAD: The counsel for PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Monday submitted a plea before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking adjournment of the hearing in the Avenfield Reference.

Citing an appearance in the Supreme Court for some other case, Irfan Qadir pleaded with the court to fix another date for the case hearing.

While commenting on the development, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad accused PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz of launching an organised propaganda campaign against the honourable courts and the armed forces.

Fawad, in a tweet, stated that after propagating against state institutions, Maryam Nawaz has now filed yet another plea in Islamabad High Court seeking adjournment of her case.

“What else do we call these people if not Sicilian Mafia,” the minister lambasted PML-N vice president.

The information minister also shared a copy of the application.

It is pertinent to note that in July 2018, PML-N supremo Nawaz was sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison and slapped with a fine of Rs1.3 billion in the Avenfield properties reference while Maryam was sentenced to eight years with a fine of Rs335 million.

The Avenfield properties reference was one of three filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) the preceding year in light of the Supreme Court’s verdict against Nawaz in the Panama Papers case.

The reference pertained to the ownership of the Sharif family’s apartments at Avenfield House, London.
