Heart diseases increasing at alarming rate: Murtaza Wahab

KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab on Saturday said that the rise in heart disease in Pakistan has reached alarming levels.

“NICVD is a state-of-the-art heart hospital where people from not only Sindh but all over the country and the world come for heart treatment. The Karachi Institute of Heart Disease (KIHD) will start functioning as NICVD’s Satellite Center from December 25 this year. All the state-of-the-art heart treatment facilities will be available free of cost in this satellite center,” the administrator said while addressing the inaugural function of the 50th Cardiocon of Pakistan Cardiac Society.

Administrator Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that it is welcoming to hold a four-day conference on heart protection during the pandemic.

He further said that a road would be constructed in district south which would be dedicated to promoting “walking” to prevent disease.

Wahab stressed said that cardiologists should pay more attention to the precautionary aspect of cardiology and said that the Sindh government would extend full support to cardiologists and their societies in organising such awareness seminars.

Speaking on the occasion, NICVD Executive Director Nadeem Qamar said that cardiologists should present their experiences and research papers at such conferences so that it would be easy for them to detect the nature and severity of diseases in the local population.

At the end of the ceremony, former President of Cardicon Prof Feroz Memon and the late cardiologist Tahir Iqbal were given lifetime achievement awards.
