ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill on Saturday, blamed previous governments for pollution in Sahiwal.

Without naming a political party, the advisor said “they built a coal power plant in the lush green agricultural land of Sahiwal which has resulted in the city being ranked as one of the most polluted areas in the country.

He said when Prime Minister Imran Khan started the tree-planting programme in 2013, opposition used to make fun of it.

He further said that Changa Manga has suffered a lot during these years and only 37 per cent of the area remains green.

“The dangerous air pollution has caused respiratory and lung diseases among residents,” he said sharing a report which claimed that Sahiwal with 394 AQI topped the list of ten most polluted cities of Pakistan, followed by Lahore and Bahawalpur.

Detailing about the ruling government’s measures to reduce pollution, the PM’s aide said the government was building three large and seven medium-sized clean energy dams. He further stated that the government aimed to plant.

On the other hand, special Assistant on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam on Saturday said the government had taken different initiatives to control smog as it has become a big issue.

“The government is promoting electric vehicles industry and this technology would be helpful to reduce the calamity of smog,” he said in an interview.

Malik Amin Aslam said that only Euro-5 petroleum products would be allowed for sale in Lahore and actions would be taken against those factories which were running without scrubbers.
