PM Imran Khan thanks ailing MNAs, Sheikh Rashid for attending joint session

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday appreciated the spirit of his ailing party members of the National Assembly (MNAs) and Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid for attending yesterday’s crucial joint session of the parliament despite his brother’s death.

The premier took to Twitter and “thanked” them on behalf of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the nation.

MNA Mohammad Kheyal Zaman, Ehsanullah Tiwana and Rahat Amanullah Bhatti had attended yesterday’s joint sitting despite not being in good health.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid was also in Wednesday’s session despite the demise of his brother, Sheikh Rafiq Qamar, on the same day.

President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan, in their separate messages yesterday, had extended condolences to Rashid and expressed grief over his loss.

Joint session of parliament

Amid ruckus, the joint session of parliament on Wednesday ended with the House passing 33 bills, including controversial amendments in the Election Act – granting the right of vote to overseas Pakistanis and providing for use of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the elections – and deferring one bill.

According to the bill, the ECP shall, with the technical assistance of NADRA and any other authority or agency, enable overseas Pakistanis in a prescribed manner subject to secrecy and security to exercise their right to vote during the general elections.

The bill also authorizes the ECP to procure electronic voting machines for the casting of votes in general elections.

The joint sitting also passed the International Court of Justice (Review and Reconsideration) bill, 2021. The bill provides for the right of review and reconsideration in the matter of Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav to give legal effect to the judgment of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
