This winter masses will neither have gas, nor flour: Sherry

ISLAMABAD: Expressing concern over the wheat crisis, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Vice President Senator Sherry Rehman on Monday said this winter masses would neither have gas, nor wheat flour for cooking.

“While the country struggles with a crippling gas deficit, this winter the last staple left to eat is also under threat: roti,” Sherry Rehman tweeted.

She said the Punjab Flour Mills Association was protesting at the new purchasing crisis to profit only mafias. “A bag of 20 kilos of Aata has already gone up by Rs80,” she said.

People were being punished for incompetency of the government, she said adding that the government was not ready to take any responsibility and asking the flour mills to buy wheat themselves, Bol news channel reported.

“Will you blame the opposition for wheat flour crisis as well? The government is creating opportunities for mafias through the crisis,” she maintained.

On November 13, the Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) had announced to observe a strike in the Rawalpindi division from Monday, November 15, 2021.

The association had convened a meeting of mill-owners for devising the future course of action in the wake of the condition of lifting 25 per cent of the allocated wheat quota from other districts.
