LAHORE: Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister on Information and Special Initiatives Hasaan Khawar on Monday said Pakistan gave better minimum monthly wage than China, India, Indonesia and several other regional countries to its labourers.
Quoting the data of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Punjab government spokesperson said Pakistan had surpassed its neighbours in providing minimum monthly wages.
“Pakistan is one of the highest paid countries in the region. Other countries including China, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh lag behind Pakistan,” he tweeted.
He said thanks to the government measures, our working class was rapidly moving towards a better lifestyle.
“The working class was the hardest hit by the closure of industries and businesses because of the Coronavirus,” he said.
Hasaan Khawar said the smart lockdown policy and phase-wise lifting of coronavirus restrictions from various business sectors proved to be effective.

On Nov 12, Khawar had tweeted that despite the wave of inflation, Pakistan had done way better in addressing hunger issues. He had said according to the Global Hunger Index Pakistan ranked 107 in 2016 — after three years of the Pakistan Muslim League-N government. While, he said after three years of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf government, Pakistan ranked 92 in 2021.
He also said that the government’s subsidies on sugar/wheat and the Ehsaas Rashan Programme would further improve the country’s ranking.
