Sharifs must provide money trail instead of fabricating stories and theories: Fawad

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has asked the Sharif family to tell the nation how it accumulated properties worth billions of rupees, instead of fabricating “silly stories and conspiracy theories”.

“From where Nawaz Sharif got the money to purchase Avenfield Apartments which were later given to Maryam Nawaz?” asked Chaudhry in a series of tweets on Monday.

The information minister recalled Maryam used to say that she does not own any property neither in London nor in Pakistan. “Now the property of billions has come to light. Answer this,” Chaudhry added.

While commenting on a report that claimed former chief justice Supreme Court Saqib Nisar had given orders not to release Nawaz and Maryam before the 2018 elections, he said, “What kind of jokes are being run in this country to prove that Nawaz Sharif is oppressed. Imagine if you visit a judge to have tea, and then he is on a call with someone and gives instructions in front of you that if an accused should be given bail or not. The accused is not even a common man but the prime minister of the country.”

According to a report by The News International, former chief judge of the apex court Gilgit-Baltistan Rana M Shamim claimed in an affidavit that he was a witness to Nisar’s orders to a high court judge not to release Nawaz Sharif and Maryam on bail before the 2018 general polls.

“Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz Sharif must remain in jail until the general elections are over. On assurances from the other side, he (Saqib Nisar) became calm and happily demanded another cup of tea,” the report quoted the former top judge of G-B as saying in the affidavit.

‘Negative media and fake news dangerous for country’

Earlier, Chaudhry stressed the need to curb the tendencies of fake news by promulgating stringent legislation.
In a tweet, Chaudhry said that the association of negative media with fake news was dangerous for the country, and new legislation was imperative to curb the collaboration between fake news, and negative media.

The mainstream print and electronic media did not bother to report up to Rs43 per kg recent reduction in sugar price across the country due to the government’s action, he added.

According to him, the courts in the country should also vacate stay orders given to the sugar mills.
