PDM to protest against inflation in Karachi today

KARACHI: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance of opposition parties will hold a protest today at Saddar Regal Chowk area of Karachi against the government over rising inflation in the country.

Jamiat e Ulema Islam (JUI-F) and Pakistan Democratic Movement Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman will lead the protest. Leaders and workers of other parties including PML-N will also participate in the protest, BOL News reported.

Arrangements have been made by the traffic police to restore the flow of traffic. Roads around Regal Chowk will be closed during the protest and traffic will be diverted to alternative routes.

PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman arrived in Karachi yesterday. He was received by party leaders including JUI-F Sindh Secretary General Allama Rashid Soomro and Aslam Ghauri.

According to JUI-F Sindh, Maulana Fazlur Rehman will hold meetings with party leaders during his two-day stay in Karachi.

On the other hand, the provincial leadership of Pakistan Democratic Movement Balochistan has convened a meeting at 4 pm today.

According to JUI-F leader Maulana Abdul Wasi, the meeting will review the preparations for the public meeting to be organized by PDM on November 17.

He said that there would be a historic march against inflation in Quetta on November 17. People fully participate in rallies and meetings.

Yesterday, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met Maulana Fazl ur Rehman, after the ice started melting between them.

During the meeting in Islamabad, both the leaders decided to give the government a tough time in the parliament.

The PPP chairman was accompanied by former federal information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira and leader of the opposition in the senate and former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani.

Bilawal and Fazl raised concerns about the rising inflation. The PPP chairman also convinced the PDM chief for an in-house change in the parliament.

“Joint strategy to deal with the government is the only way to succeed,” Bilawal said adding that if the opposition came up with a joint strategy it could defeat the government on the issue of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) amendment, electronic voting machine (EVM) and other electoral reforms.
