Pakistan to ‘provide all possible humanitarian aid’ to Afghanistan, says PM Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Thursday that Pakistan has assured Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi that Islamabad “will provide all possible humanitarian aid” to its neighbour.

“Pakistan has always stood with the Afghan people in their hour of need. We have assured Afghan acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and his delegation we will provide all possible humanitarian aid to Afghanistan,” tweeted the premier.

The PM announced that Pakistan will be “sending essential food items, emergency medical supplies and winter shelters to provide immediate relief to the Afghan people”.

“We will also provide free Covid-19 vaccines to all Afghans travelling across the border into Pakistan,” said PM Imran while urging the “international community to fulfill its collective responsibility” in averting a “grave humanitarian crisis confronting the people of Afghanistan”.

Afghan delegation reaches Islamabad for Troika Plus meet

On Wednesday, A high-level ministerial delegation of the Taliban government led by Muttaqi arrived in Islamabad for the Troika Plus meeting.

Adviser for Commerce and Investment to Prime Minister Razak Dawood along with other dignitaries received the delegation.

The Troika Plus meeting comes a few days after Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi visited Kabul.

Pakistan is hosting the Troika Plus meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, November 11 with special representatives and envoys for Afghanistan from China, Russian, the US and the Afghan government attending the moot.

“Pakistan attaches high importance to the Troika Plus mechanism on the situation in Afghanistan,” a statement issued by the Foreign Office earlier said.

“Pakistan hopes that deliberations of the Troika Plus meeting would contribute to the ongoing efforts for achieving lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan,” it added.
