A day after the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) called off its rally against the government, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry acknowledged the media for being “responsible and cautious”.
The minister took to Twitter on Tuesday and thanked the media for the role it played during the crisis.
“I would like to thank the media on behalf of the Ministry of Information for the responsibility and caution shown by Pakistan’s mainstream media in the recent crisis,” said Chaudhry.

“If the media does not show responsibility in such crises, the problems of governments can be aggravated greatly.”
“Journalism is about telling the truth, responsibly,” he added.
Yesterday, the banned TLP had called off their march to the capital and ended its occupation of a major highway after reaching a deal with the government.
Following more than a week of clashes that left at least four policemen dead and several others injured, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government on Sunday claimed to have reached an ‘agreement’ with the group but did not reveal any details.
The banned TLP was protesting over the detention of its leader Saad Rizvi, arrested in April, and was demanding the expulsion of the French ambassador from Pakistan. Several thousand supporters had begun a march from Lahore to Islamabad earlier in October.
