Govt to import 100,000 tonnes of urea for Rabi crop

ISLAMABAD: To meet the fertiliser demand for the Rabi crop, the government will import 100,000 tonnes of urea and also assured the fertiliser sector to supply gas on priority basis.

In this regard, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin chaired a meeting on fertiliser at the Finance Division on Friday.

The Ministry of Industries and Production secretary briefed the meeting about the demand and supply situation of fertiliser in the country. Supply of gas to SNGPL-based urea plants will assure production of additional 300,000 tonnes till January 2022.

The government is firmly committed to ensure maximum gas supply to all the fertiliser units, including Pak Arab and FFBL.

He also said the tender for the import of 100,000 tonnes of urea has also been advertised.

Speaking on the occasion, Train expressed satisfaction on urea availability and directed the gas companies to streamline the supply of gas to the fertiliser units for smooth production.

He also directed all the stakeholders to evolve consensus on the matters related to the sales tax refund and GIDC payments on a fast-track basis.

Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam, Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar, Ministry of Industries and Production, Ministry of Petroleum Division secretaries, additional secretary of the Ministry of Finance and other senior officials participated in the meeting.
