JUI-F to lead religious groups to oppose the Domestic Violence Bill

According to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of JUI-F, his party would convene a meeting of all religious groups to discuss a strategy to combat the bills.

The leader was speaking during a press conference at the Karachi residence of Shah Owais Noorani, the Jamiat Ulema-e-president, where he announced that a committee of lawyers and scholars had been created to oppose the bills.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of JUI-F is unhappy with the domestic violence and Waqf properties bills that are now being debated in Parliament.

He has said that the Domestic Violence Bill (Prevention and Protection) Bill 2021 is against Islamic principles, the Holy Quran, and the Constitution.

Last month, the Domestic Violence (Protection and Prevention) Bill 2020 was presented in the National Assembly which aims to prevent domestic violence against women, children, the elderly, and vulnerable people.

He stressed that religious groups stand against domestic violence, but said that the domestic violence bill “is aimed at ruining family life and promoting Western culture and values rather than Islamic principles.”

Fazlur Rehman asked people to stand together against those who want to impose Western culture on Pakistan, claiming that the bill threatens women’s dignity.
