Accused To Bear Costs For Reconstructing Damaged Hindu Temple: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the immediate arrest of the accused involved in the attack on the Hindu temple in Rahim Yar Khan and said that the expenses for the restoration of the temple should also be borne by the accused.

The case of an attack on the temple in Rahim Yar Khan was heard by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Qazi Amin on Friday.

IG Punjab, Secretary Punjab and Additional Advocate General appeared before the court.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that it had been three days since the incident but not a single person had been arrested so far.

Expressing anger at the policemen, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that the SHO who arrested the eight-year-old boy should be sacked.

To this IG Punjab replied that the police officer has been suspended and departmental action will be taken against him but he has the right to work.

The Supreme Court has sought a report from the IG Punjab and the Chief Secretary within a week and adjourned the hearing till August 13.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday announced the restoration of the Hindu temple which was damaged by a charged mob in Bhong village of Punjab’s Rahim Yar Khan district.

The Premier said on Twitter, “Strongly condemn attack on Ganesh Mandir in Bhung, RYK yesterday. I have already asked IG Punjab to ensure the arrest of all culprits & take action against any police negligence. The govt will also restore the Mandir.”
