ISLAMABAD: The government has decided not to present the 27th Constitutional Amendment in the ongoing sessions of the National Assembly and Senate, opting instead to continue political consultations before moving forward.

According to official sources, the initial draft of the amendment has been shared with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for review. The government will finalize the draft after receiving PPP’s feedback.

Sources said the government plans to take its coalition partners into confidence before presenting the final version in Parliament. It has also decided to reach out to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to seek their input.

A special committee may be formed to develop consensus on the proposed amendment, while meetings with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) are also expected soon.

Officials said that if the opposition does not agree, the government will review its numbers in Parliament before formally introducing the amendment.

Political contacts and consultation meetings will continue during the current National Assembly and Senate sessions to ensure broader political agreement on the proposed changes.
