NDMA’s NEOC issues rain alert for South Punjab

The National Emergency Operation Center of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a rain alert for various parts of southern Punjab due to the threat of heavy rainfall and strong winds.

According to the alert, several areas are likely to experience thunderstorms, downpours, and gusty winds over the next 24 to 48 hours. The districts expected to be affected include Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Ahmedpur, Liaquatpur, Zahir Pir, Rajanpur, Khanpur, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Sadiqabad.

Authorities have warned that the heavy rains could trigger flash floods in hilly streams and raise the risk of landslides. Low-lying areas may also face urban flooding and waterlogging.

The public has been advised to avoid standing near weak structures or trees during strong winds, as these could collapse and damage power lines, leading to casualties and property loss. Reduced visibility due to dust and rain may also increase the chances of road accidents.

NDMA has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during rainfall, park vehicles in safe places, and strictly follow local administration’s instructions. People are also advised to stay updated with weather alerts and immediately contact emergency services in case of any urgent situation.
