ATC approves 8-day physical remand of Aleema Khan’s son

LAHORE:  An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Friday approved an eight-day physical remand of Shah Riaz Khan, son of Aleema Khan, in the Jinnah House attack case.

During the hearing, Lahore police produced Shah Riaz Khan before the court, a day after his arrest, and sought a 30-day physical remand for investigation.

Defence counsel Salman Akram Raja argued that the suspect had been arrested after a delay of two years and questioned the evidence against him. He further contended that since Aleema Khan had already been discharged from the case, her son should also be acquitted.

The police requested additional time to present the case record. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its decision and later granted an eight-day physical remand of Shah Riaz Khan instead of the 30 days sought by police.

It is pertinent to mention that Shah Riaz Khan was taken into custody a day earlier from his residence in Lahore.
