According to official data, Pakistan spent over Rs. 179 billion on tea imports during the fiscal year 2024–25.
In FY25, Pakistan imported 246,514 metric tons of tea, marking a 4.2 percent decrease from the 259,000 metric tons imported the previous year. However, the country still paid a high import bill of $629 million.
In June 2025, Pakistan imported 19,804 metric tons of tea for $49.7 million or Rs. 14.18 billion, reflecting a 16.94 percent decline in volume compared to May 2025, when the country imported 21,971 metric tons worth nearly \$60 million.
Despite proposals to restrict non-essential imports to safeguard foreign exchange reserves, the government has consistently excluded tea, as Pakistanis remain deeply attached to it.
Pakistan continues to rank among the world’s top tea importers and consumers.
