Sanghar camel fitted with prosthetic leg after one year

SANGHAR:  A camel that suffered a violent amputation at the hands of a landlord last year in Sanghar has been rehabilitated with a prosthetic leg, showcasing a rare story of recovery and care.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MNA Shazia Atta Marri shared recent images of the camel, showing it standing and walking with its new artificial leg. The development has sparked relief and appreciation among animal rights advocates and locals alike.

The incident occurred in June last year when a landlord in Sanghar violently assaulted the camel for allegedly entering his fields. Using a sharp weapon, he severed the animal’s leg in an act that drew widespread outrage and condemnation.

Efforts by animal welfare activists and local authorities over the past year led to the camel receiving treatment and, eventually, a custom-made prosthetic leg.

The camel was shifted to Karachi for treatment and the police arrested the suspects.

The camel was transferred to the Shelter CDRC Benji project of Animal Welfare.

According to Director CDRS Benji’s project, Sarah Jahangir, when the camel came, he was in a state of frightening and severe distress, the artificial leg specially designed for the camel was imported from the United States.
