Police said on Friday that a clash between personnel from the police and Rangers in Karachi’s SITE-A Area led to an exchange of fire, killing a police officer and injuring a Rangers personnel.

Senior Superintendent of Police Keamari, Captain (retd) Faizan Ali, said that initial investigations revealed the two men argued, and the dispute escalated into a shootout.

Officials identified the slain police officer as Waseem Akhtar, who served at the Gulshan-e-Maymar Police Station.

Doctors are currently treating the injured Rangers official, Nauman, who remains unconscious in the hospital.

The SSP stated that investigators recovered two 9mm pistols from the scene. Nauman, who is deployed with the 34 Wing of the paramilitary force, will give his statement for legal proceedings once he regains consciousness.

He added that authorities have already initiated formal action under the prescribed legal framework.
