Lahore: In a disturbing development, Lahore police have arrested a woman in the Defence area on charges of brutally torturing and killing animals. The arrest follows a horrifying discovery of an individual deriving satisfaction from inflicting pain, a behavior often linked to certain psychological conditions. The suspect was reportedly posting videos of her heinous acts on social media.
Police were alerted to the situation by the animal rights organization Animal Rescue and Shelter after videos surfaced on Instagram showing an influencer torturing and killing rabbits, cats, and other rare animals. Responding swiftly, ASP Shehr Bano Naqvi led a raid on the woman’s home, where officers discovered a horrifying scene far beyond their expectations. Cigarettes were scattered everywhere, and animals were kept in extremely cruel conditions across various rooms.
ASP Shehr Bano Naqvi confirmed that numerous animals, including rabbits, rare species, and cats, were recovered from the house, noting the bizarre circumstances in which they were kept. Naqvi stated that the woman appears to be suffering from a mental illness and has since been transferred to a hospital for treatment. An FIR has been registered against her for her actions, which included posting graphic images of animal cruelty.
The rescued domestic animals are being transferred to the JFC Shelter via the Pakistan Animal Rescue Center, while wild animals have been handed over to the Wildlife Department and other relevant authorities. This immediate action aims to provide care for the victims and ensure proper handling of the situation.
ASP Shehr Bano Naqvi urged the public to monitor individuals with mental health issues who own pets, cautioning against gifting pets to such individuals. She emphasized the importance of informing parents if such individuals are around animals and preventing them from keeping pets, further highlighting that animal cruelty can unfortunately escalate to human violence.
