NDMA issues alert for heavy rains, storms & urban flooding across country

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in various parts of the country.

According to the NDMA, rising temperatures and continuous rainfall in the northern areas have increased the risk of glacial outburst floods. Residents living near rivers in Hunza, Shigar, Ghanche, and Chitral have been advised to stay cautious.

The NDMA has directed the disaster management authorities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan to closely monitor sensitive areas.

Heavy downpours are expected in Islamabad, Mianwali, Khushab, Faisalabad, Okara, and Sahiwal, which could lead to possible urban flooding in city areas. Rain is also expected in Balochistan’s Loralai, Barkhan, Ziarat, Sibi, and Chaman districts.

The NDMA has warned of potential urban flooding and landslides due to intense rainfall. People are advised to stay away from weak structures, fragile walls, electric poles, and billboards.

Relevant departments have been instructed to ensure the timely availability of emergency machinery and equipment in vulnerable areas. Citizens have been urged to avoid going near streams, rivers, and fast-flowing water channels during this period.
