Bangladesh Test Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto steps down

DHAKA: Bangladesh Test team captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has stepped down from his leadership role, according to cricket media sources.

Shanto’s decision comes in the aftermath of Bangladesh’s heavy defeat against Sri Lanka in the second Test, where the visitors secured victory by an innings and 78 runs.

Sources suggest that Shanto lost interest in leading the Test side after being removed from ODI captaincy.

Following his resignation from Test captaincy, Najmul Hossain Shanto stated that he no longer wishes to continue leading the side in the longest format.

“I don’t want to carry on as Test captain. I’ve taken this decision in the best interest of the team,” Shanto said.
He further remarked, “In my opinion, having three different captains for three formats is not a wise decision. Working under three separate leaders could be challenging for the team.”
