A man in Nevada has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping his wife’s employer after she was accused of embezzling $20 million from his company over seven years, according to the New York Post (NYP).
42-year-old William Costa faces charges of kidnapping, conspiracy, battery, coercion, and extortion in connection to the alleged abduction of Larry Gilmore, the owner of Gilmore Construction LLC. Costa’s wife, 46-year-old Cynthia ‘Cindy’ Marabella, worked as a financial controller at the company and allegedly used the stolen funds to purchase luxury items, including a purple Lamborghini.
According to Las Vegas Review-Journal, Gilmore was driving to work when he saw Marabella’s Lamborghini nearby. Moments later, his Porsche was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Suburban.
Police reports state that a man exited the Suburban and showed Gilmore pictures of his children before another man put him in a chokehold, punched him, and restrained him with zip ties. He was then taken into the desert, where his captors placed a bag over his head and held a gun to him.
He was ordered to tell authorities that he had given the money to Marabella as a “gift or investment for a business”, or his family would be killed.
Gilmore pleaded with Costa to speak to his father to “fix the situation.” After being released, he reported the crime to the police.
