Aga Khan IV’s funeral to take place on Saturday in Lisbon

The funeral of Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community, will be held on Saturday in Lisbon, following his passing on Tuesday at the age of 88.

The renowned philanthropist will be privately laid to rest in Aswan, Egypt, on Sunday, as announced by community leadership. Naguib Kheraj, a senior adviser to the Ismaili community, stated that the ceremony would be brief and dignified, without any major public events.

The Government of Pakistan has declared February 8 a national day of mourning to coincide with the funeral. A Cabinet Division notification confirmed that the government and people of Pakistan express profound grief over the loss of the Aga Khan IV, with the national mourning day observed on Saturday.

Rahim Al-Hussaini, the Aga Khan’s eldest son, will succeed him as the new Aga Khan V.

Prince Karim Aga Khan IV passed away in Lisbon on February 4, surrounded by his family. He was a prominent figure in the Ismaili community, which comprises around 15 million followers worldwide, primarily in regions such as Central Asia, the Middle East, South Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America. His leadership and philanthropy left a lasting impact on the global community.
