WhatsApp set to roll out AI character creation for users

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a groundbreaking feature that will enable users to create their own AI-driven chatbots.

According to recent updates, the Meta-owned messaging platform has begun testing the feature in its latest beta version for Android. The new functionality will allow users to design and personalize AI chatbots directly within the application, offering a tailored experience for various needs.

Inspired by a similar tool in Instagram’s personal area, the feature aims to enhance user interaction by making it simple and intuitive to create AI companions. Users will start the process by providing a detailed description of the chatbot’s personality, purpose, goals, and unique attributes. For instance, users can design chatbots geared towards productivity, entertainment, or personal assistance.

To facilitate easy adoption, WhatsApp may provide predefined templates or examples of popular AI profiles to guide users in building their custom chatbots. The descriptions users provide will play a key role in shaping the AI’s behavior and abilities, such as motivating users during workouts or helping them meet tight deadlines.

Although WhatsApp has not yet announced an official release date or provided further details, the initiative signals the company’s move to compete in the growing AI development sector.

This feature follows the earlier discovery of a dedicated tab for AI tools in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.1.24 for Android, which allows users to explore and utilize AI bots seamlessly. The feature is anticipated to be available in the coming months, pending further updates from WhatsApp.
