Actor and producer Saud Qasmi recently sparked a heated online debate after sharing his candid views about the decline of Pakistan’s film industry. In a promotional video for Excuse Me with Ahmad Ali Butt, Saud directly named iconic figures Shaan Shahid and Syed Noor as key contributors to Lollywood’s challenges.

“Shaan and Syed Noor have hurt Lollywood. There are a few others, but these are the main people. If they wanted, the industry could have gone far,” he claimed. Saud also acknowledged the collective responsibility, saying, “We’ve all contributed to its downfall.”

While elaborating on Shaan’s role, Saud remarked, “Shaan’s problem is that he…,” before trailing off with a laugh and adding, “Let’s just say that instead of finding faults in others, you should focus on your own faults.”

The remarks drew mixed reactions. Fans rallied to defend Shaan, with one Instagram user calling him “the one and only superstar in Pakistan.” However, others pointed back at Saud’s own career, with a commenter writing, “Look who’s talking. Saud did extremely stupid films.”

Reflecting on his contributions to television, Saud mentioned his decision to avoid casting himself in lead roles in his productions, such as the hit series Yeh Zindagi Hai. “I gave my own characters to others. I could have done them myself, but I thought, ‘No, the other actor should be pushed ahead,’” he explained.

Despite his efforts, Saud expressed disappointment at the lack of gratitude from those he helped. “Those whom I gave work to did not even turn back to acknowledge me. They don’t even take my name,” he lamented.

The controversy highlights ongoing tensions within Pakistan’s entertainment industry, as figures like Saud continue to challenge norms and question accountability.
