CAPE TOWN: Pakistan’s opening batter, Saim Ayub, has been ruled out of the ongoing Test match against South Africa in Cape Town after suffering an ankle injury while fielding at deep third during the seventh over on the first day.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that Saim underwent both X-rays and MRI tests. The results have been forwarded to specialists in London to seek further guidance on his treatment and the duration of his absence from competitive cricket.
South Africa wrapped up day one of the second Test with 316-4 in 80 overs, with Ryan Rickelton and Temba Bavuma both scoring centuries against Pakistan at Newlands Cricket Ground.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat. Pakistan made early breakthroughs, removing three South African batters for 71 runs. Khurram Shahzad got the first breakthrough, dismissing Aiden Markram for 17 off 40 balls. Mohammad Abbas followed suit, sending No. 3 Wiaan Mulder back for just five runs off 18 balls. Salman Ali Agha also claimed a wicket, dismissing Tristan Stubbs for a duck.
Bavuma, who scored a magnificent century (106 runs off 179 balls with nine fours and two sixes), was dismissed by Salman before the close of play. The wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan made his fourth catch of the day behind the stumps.
