NADRA launches facial recognition for elderly citizens

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced a new facial recognition facility to assist elderly citizens in Pakistan.

This initiative, part of NADRA’s New Year plans, aims to make identity verification easier for senior citizens, especially those struggling with fingerprint recognition.

The decision was finalized during a meeting at NADRA headquarters, attended by officials and regulatory representatives. NADRA Chairman Lt. Gen. Muhammad Munir Afsar highlighted the difficulties pensioners face due to faint fingerprint impressions and emphasized the importance of modern technology in addressing these challenges.

Starting January 15, 2025, the facial recognition feature will be accessible nationwide through the Pak-ID mobile app and at NADRA centers. Officials believe this technology could revolutionize identity verification, making it more inclusive and efficient.

The meeting also discussed projects like the “National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework” and the “Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP),” which aim to drive Pakistan’s digital transformation and boost its economy.

This initiative reflects NADRA’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to improve access to essential services and support Pakistan’s elderly population.
