GUYANA: Lahore Qalandars clinched a nail-biting four-run victory against Hampshire Hawks to register their first win in the inaugural Global Super League (GSL) 2024 at the Providence Stadium on Saturday.

Opting to bat first, Qalandars faced early setbacks, losing two wickets for just six runs. Adam Rossington (30) and Mohammad Faizan (19) steadied the innings with a 31-run partnership before Rossington was bowled by Benny Howell.

Tom Abell contributed a laborious 21 off 27 deliveries, while Luke Wells and Muhammad Akhlaq provided late fireworks. Their unbeaten 44-run stand pushed the Qalandars to a modest 135-5 in 20 overs. Wells remained not out on 35 off 24 balls, hitting one boundary and two sixes, while Akhlaq scored 23 off 12 with three sixes.

In reply, Hampshire Hawks managed 131-8, falling short despite a valiant effort. Tom Prest top-scored with 30 off 22, while Benny Howell (25) and James Fuller (26*) added quick runs in the middle order.

With 21 required off the final over, Fuller struck two sixes against Qalandars’ skipper Carlos Brathwaite, but the Hawks needed five off the last ball and could only manage a single.

Tabraiz Shamsi was the star bowler for Qalandars, taking three wickets. Brathwaite, Luke Wells, and Asif Afridi picked up one wicket each.

The GSL 2024 also features teams like Guyana Amazon Warriors, Rangpur Riders, and Victoria. Currently, Victoria leads the standings after defeating Guyana, while Rangpur Riders sit at the bottom following a Super Over loss to Hampshire Hawks.
