Punjab govt revises school timings in Lahore

The Islamabad administration has adjusted school timings for winter to shield students and staff from the cold weather.

According to a notification by the Federal Directorate of Education, schools will now operate from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, with Friday classes running from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Evening shift schools will open from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm.

In October, to address severe smog in Lahore, the Punjab Environment Protection Department introduced revised school timings across the province. These changes, effective from October 28, will remain in place until January 31.

Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeded 150, posing serious health risks, particularly to children and the elderly. To reduce exposure, school assemblies are being held indoors, and all outdoor activities have been suspended.

Additionally, fireworks have been banned until January 31, 2025. The public is urged to minimize outdoor activities, wear masks, and keep windows and doors closed to limit smog exposure.
