Seven police personnel abducted from the Atmanzai check post, Bannu, have been safely recovered following successful negotiations led by a local jirga on Tuesday.
The District Police Officer (DPO) confirmed that the swift intervention by the jirga ensured the safe release of the abductees.
The kidnapping occurred on Monday when 30 to 40 armed assailants stormed the Atmanzai check post in Bannu, taking seven on-duty police officers hostage. The attackers also seized weapons and other police equipment. Four police personnel managed to avoid abduction as they were not present at the post during the attack.
Earlier the same day, unidentified attackers targeted a vehicle in Bannu’s Jani Khel area, resulting in the deaths of four individuals, including a tribal leader.
The victims were identified as Malik Shoudi Khan, Ajab Khan, and Ajmal, while the identity of a deceased woman remains unknown. Several others, including a woman and a child, sustained injuries in the attack.
