PM Shehbaz announces winter relief package for electricity consumers

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the relief package for electricity consumers.

He said that the government has decided to reduce the price of electricity for three months of winter, adding that electricity prices would be significantly reduced in December, January and February.

He made this announcement while addressing an event in connection with Youm-e-Iqbal, he said that under the ‘Bijli Sahulat Package’, domestic consumers would get up to Rs 26 per unit relief while commercial consumers would receive up to Rs 22.71 per unit relief. He also announced up to Rs 15.05 per unit relief for industrial consumers.

According to the Power Division tariff relief will be provided on excess electricity consumption compared to previous year. It is to be noted here that the consumers using up to 25% more electricity than the reference benchmark will be eligible for the relief package.

The package would also be applicable to the consumers of all DISCO in the country including K-Electric, , said PM Shehbaz.

He said that the economic situation of the country is gradually improving, adding that the government is focusing to decease its spending.

The inflation rate had decreased from 32% to 6%, as interest rate had reduced from 22% to 15%, he said, hoping that exports would increase, industries would run, employment opportunities would be available

PM Shehbaz maintained that the government is advancing the message of Allama Iqbal in the country.
