ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi has directed the judges of anti-terrorism courts (ATCs) to decide cases without fear and danger for the supremacy of law.
He issued the directives while presiding over a meeting regarding the anti-terrorism court, said the declaration released by the Supreme Court.
The SC declaration said that 2273 anti-terrorism cases are pending across the country, adding that the highest number of 1372 anti-terrorism cases are undecided in Sindh.
CJP Afridi expressed concerns over pending cases and emphasized on the importance of speedy delivery of justice, the SC declaration said.
Security of witnesses and other obstacles to the delivery of justice also came under consideration, it said, adding that the CJP directed the Sindh Forensic Lab to assist Balochistan as well. The best judges of anti-terrorism courts would also be sent for training abroad, CJP Afridi vowed.
He directed the Attorney General and Advocate Generals to bring the related matter to the notice of the governments concerned.
The CJP asked for immediate provision of infrastructure and resources to anti-terrorism courts, moreover, the performance of anti-terrorism courts, challenges to ATCs and their solution were reviewed in the meeting, the declaration said.
Justice Jamal Mandukhel participated in the meeting through video link, the declaration said.
