Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Central Deputy Information Secretary, Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai, shared that Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called for the release of PTI’s detained leader, Imran Khan.

Addressing the media alongside JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri, Yousafzai criticized the government, asserting it lacks popular support and legitimacy. He stated that Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s call for Imran Khan’s release signals a potential shift towards unified opposition efforts.

Commenting on recent parliamentary legislation, JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri alleged the government had breached prior commitments. He mentioned that Maulana Fazlur Rehman would hold consultations with other opposition parties on his return from an upcoming international trip to discuss future strategies.

Ghauri stressed that Imran Khan’s cases should proceed based on merit, noting that his extended detention raises questions about fairness and justice.

This demand emerged shortly after PTI leader Asad Qaiser met with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad to discuss possible collaboration against the government. According to sources, PTI initially sought a meeting on Monday, but JUI-F, after internal discussions, agreed to meet the following day.

During their discussions, both parties concurred on reactivating current parliamentary committees and exploring a coordinated movement against the government, with plans to engage other opposition parties as well.

JUI-F advised that PTI demonstrate genuine commitment if they intend to collaborate more effectively. On future joint plans with JUI-F, PTI decided to consult Imran Khan and senior party members.

Both sides agreed to intensify efforts after Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s return from his trip abroad.
