Trump casts his vote, voices confidence about securing 2nd term

US presidential candidate Donald Trump has cast his vote in Palm Beach, Florida. However, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has voted by mail.

Talking to media after casting his vote, Trump along his wife Melania expressed confidence about securing a second term as President and said that his team ran the best campaign ever and appealed the people come out and vote, urging no matter how long the line is.

“Today is a very important day for America, if I win the election, I will take America to new heights,” Donald Trump vowed.

The 2024 US presidential race has been marked by intense drama: two assassination attempts, a sudden candidate change, fierce political exchanges, and concerns about democracy’s future. Anxiety is high as Election Day arrives, with 244 million Americans eligible to vote. Over 82 million ballots have already been cast, and polls indicate a very close race.

Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned to become the first woman, Black, and Asian American president. She has focused on portraying her opponent, former President Donald Trump, as a threat to democratic principles, emphasizing her dedication to reproductive rights and lowering housing and healthcare costs. Harris stepped in as the Democratic candidate after President Joe Biden withdrew his re-election bid, following a significant debate misstep against Trump.

Throughout the campaign, the race has stayed close, with expectations of razor-thin margins and potential delays in final results. Here’s a look at key aspects of the 2024 election:

  • Trump is attempting a political comeback, highlighting polls that show more Americans favor his economic policies over Harris’s. He’s promised strict immigration measures, including mass deportations, and tax cuts.
  • Trump has characterized his opponents as an “enemy from within,” a narrative amplified after a close call with an assassination attempt at a rally in July.
  • If he wins, Trump would be the first president-elect to have been indicted and convicted of a felony, allowing him control over federal investigations still pending against him.
  • Trump would also become only the second president to serve nonconsecutive terms, after Grover Cleveland in the 19th century.
  • The candidates offer contrasting visions in what has become the most expensive campaign in US history: Trump promises a reinforced “America First” approach, expanding on his previous administration.
  • Harris has run a disciplined campaign, reintroducing herself to voters after her 2020 role and working to differentiate herself from Biden, who endorsed her to lead the ticket without criticizing him directly.

Both campaigns underscore starkly different futures for the country, as Americans brace for what may be a drawn-out election result.
