US election 2024: Trump currently leads in five swing states out of seven

The excitement surrounding the US presidential election reaches its peak as American media reports over 73 million early votes have already been cast.

Polls indicate a close race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, with only a one to two-point margin separating the two candidates.

In key swing states, Trump leads in five out of seven states, including Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

Both candidates have equal chances of winning pivotal states like Nevada and Pennsylvania, increasing the uncertainty of the outcome as Election Day approaches.

The country — and the world — could face a nail-biting wait to determine whether Harris becomes the first US woman president or Trump makes a spectacular return to power after his unprecedented and sometimes violent campaign to overturn his 2020 reelection loss to Joe Biden.

The rivals crossed paths Saturday, as Harris’s official vice presidential Air Force Two and Trump’s jet shared the airport tarmac in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Both held rallies in North Carolina, while Harris spoke to supporters in Georgia, another key swing state in an otherwise dead-even nationwide contest. Trump made a stop in Virginia as well.

The rounds of high-stakes speeches before thousands of people at each stop will continue Sunday, with Harris holding multiple events in the swing state of Michigan and Trump rallying with supporters in Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

Most polls show Trump, 78, and Harris, 60, within the margin of error across the swing states.

However, Harris received a surprise boost when one of the country’s most respected pollsters released a new survey in the “Des Moines Register”, indicating that the Democrat is three points ahead of Trump in Iowa—a state he won easily in both his victorious 2016 presidential campaign and again in his narrow 2020 defeat.

Reflecting on her drive to reach every possible target before Tuesday, Harris’s team unexpectedly diverted her plane to New York for an appearance on the legendary television comedy show “Saturday Night Live”.
