LAHORE: At least 28 people were injured during clashes between students and police at a protest in Lahore over the alleged rape of a college student.
Rescue 1122 officials reported that 24 students and 4 police officers received first aid after the altercation, which occurred outside a private college in the Gulberg area.
The protest followed the arrest of a college security guard, after reports of the alleged rape went viral on social media.
Speaking at a press conference, Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran stated that the police were investigating the alleged rape but had not yet received any formal reports about the incident.
DIG Kamran mentioned that he had visited the Gulberg campus and questioned staff, but none provided concrete information. He emphasized that the police could not rely on social media for details, as the information circulating was unverified.
A spokesperson for the DIG confirmed that the security guard was in police custody and under investigation. However, the victim and her family had not come forward, and neither the local police station nor the college administration had been officially informed about the incident.
