26th Constitutional Amendment: Now and Never, vows Bilawal

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said, “Those who are asking me to withdraw from the suggestion of the proposed constitutional amendment but I ask them they should move back from their demand.”

He further said that there must be some mechanism for the appointment of judges.

He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony of issuance of Benazir Hari (farmer) Cards at the Sindh Chief Minister House, here on Tuesday.

He urged that there be equal representation of all provinces in the Federal Constitutional Court, adding that there must be some system for the appointment of judges. He recalled that these demands are not his but Shaheed Benazir Bhutto made these demands.

The PPP chairman said that some people of the view that this is not right time for the amendment, adding “But I ask them what does it mean that now is not the time? If not now, when it will be?”

Bilawal criticised the judiciary for hanging Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and imposing Dictator Gen Zia ul Haq on them, adding that it also legitimised the dictatorship of Gen Musharraf.

The same court which is the protector of our rights and supports the dictator, he said and added, “We are hanged, our women are put in Sukkur Jail.” “We should be kept in jail for 11 years, our women should be dragged to jail.”

He asked the people if they wanted this justice system or they wanted to change this mechanism.

Earlier on Oct 10, former prime minister and President PML-N Nawaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have expressed satisfaction over decline in inflation and interest rate.

Bilawal called on Nawaz at Punjab House, Islamabad on Thursday and both leaders were also satisfied with improvement in economic indications and increasing foreign exchange reserves of the country.

They welcomed the arrival of a Saudi business delegation and SCO Summit in Islamabad and termed good sign for the country’s development and prosperity.

They agreed that such activities would improve Pakistan’s image in the world and cause a positive expansion for economy.

Nawaz Sharif said that the time had proved that Charter of Democracy in 2006 was positive development at the right time and in right direction, adding the Charter of Democracy rendered stability to democracy and the Parliament started to complete its terms.
