Political parties close to reaching a consensus on proposed amendments: Fazl

ISLAMABAD: Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Monday that the political parties are close to reaching a consensus on the proposed constitutional amendments.

Speaking to the media, the JUI leader mentioned that an agreement has been developed regarding the drafts exchanged among the parties. He added, “I will meet with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Nawaz Sharif, and the PTI leadership.”

Fazlur Rehman further explained his travel plans, saying, “I will meet Bilawal Bhutto in Karachi, visit Lahore to meet Nawaz Sharif, and also hold discussions with PTI leadership in Islamabad.”

Emphasizing the importance of cooperation, the JUI chief said, “We do not want any conflict over the constitutional amendment. The 18th Constitutional Amendment took nine months to pass, so give us at least nine days.” He noted that the government’s proposed amendments, which had previously been rejected, have now been revised based on their objections.

Rehman also called for protests to be postponed until the conclusion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting, expressing hope that his request would be respected.

He stressed the need for law and order and a democratic atmosphere in the country, adding, “We will not agree to any amendments unless we are fully satisfied.”
