Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazir Tarar announced that he expects the notification for the new chief justice of Pakistan to be issued on October 24.
He stated that the next chief justice will be the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, as stipulated in the constitution.
Speaking after a parliamentary committee meeting in Islamabad, where they discussed constitutional amendments.
Tarar noted that it was significant that political parties were able to come together for discussions, calling it a ‘breakthrough.’ He added that they had talked about the draft amendments and plan to meet again in three days.
The minister mentioned that the amendments could still be finalized after October 25, and it might take anywhere from four days to several months to complete the process.
