  • Pakistan bowlers must be more effective to win tests, says Shan Masood.

MULTAN: Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood reflected on the reasons behind his team’s overwhelming defeat by England in the first Test match on Friday. Despite posting an impressive first-innings score of 556, Pakistan fell to an innings loss, marking the first time a team has lost by an innings after scoring over 500 runs.

England defeated Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs, stretching Pakistan’s losing streak to six consecutive Test matches under Masood’s leadership.

During the post-match press conference, Masood cited his bowlers’ inability to take 20 wickets as a significant factor in the recent losses. “It is quite evident that we are not able to take 20 wickets. We need to find a process to stay in the game and give ourselves a proper chance of winning a Test match,” he remarked.

Masood also noted that the Multan pitch did not behave as anticipated, mentioning the team had expected it to become more favorable for bowlers after day two. “We cannot control the behaviour of a pitch. We were expecting this pitch to get better for bowling after day two,” he explained.

In the first innings, Masood led by example with a stellar 151, but his second innings yielded only 11 runs, leaving Pakistan with a lot to consider as they regroup for the next match.
