Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has set up a 26-member steering committee to boost tourism in the province.

The committee will be led by Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, with Senator Pervaiz Rashid included as a special member. The committee’s main goals are to identify, approve, and implement plans that will enhance tourism in Punjab. They will also work to eliminate any obstacles that hinder tourism growth.

Additionally, the committee will focus on building, repairing, and improving important tourist destinations. It will recommend upgrades for historical, religious, cultural, and commercial sites to make them more appealing for tourists.

A communication strategy will also be developed to promote tourism using digital and social media platforms.

The Secretary of Tourism will support the committee’s administrative tasks, and recommendations will be made within 15 days after consulting with stakeholders.

The committee includes several other key members, such as the Information and Culture Minister, the Construction and Communications Minister, and the Transport Minister, among others. Important officials from various departments, like Planning & Development and Environment Protection, will also be part of the committee.

On September 26, Maryam Nawaz launched five new hybrid double-decker buses to encourage eco-friendly tourism in the province. These buses will be used on different routes in Lahore to promote metropolitan tourism.
