PESHAWAR: A police officer was martyred and four others were injured in a remote-controlled bomb explosion targeting a police van escorting a convoy of foreign diplomats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district on Sunday, en route to Malam Jabba.
District Police Officer (DPO) Zahidullah Khan confirmed the blast, stating that the attack targeted a group of foreign diplomats, leading to the death of one officer, identified as Burhan, while four others, including a sub-inspector, sustained injuries.
The damaged police van was leading a convoy of 11 foreign diplomats. Fortunately, all diplomats remained unharmed and were safely transferred to Islamabad after the explosion. The convoy was traveling to Malam Jabba after attending an event at the Chamber of Commerce in Mingora when the incident occurred in Sherabad, a suburban area.
Police revealed that the convoy included ambassadors from countries such as Russia, Portugal, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, and others. The injured officers were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) in Saidu Sharif, while heavy law enforcement presence was deployed in the area following the attack.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Mohammad Ali Gandapur confirmed that all diplomats were safe and had been relocated to a secure location before their departure to Islamabad. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
