Sindh makes biometric verification mandatory for vehicle registrations, transfers

The Sindh government has introduced new restrictions, requiring biometric verification for all vehicle registrations and transfers in the province, home to over 55 million people. Sindh Excise Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the new rule will be rolled out in stages to enhance transparency and prevent fraud.

Under these regulations, biometric verification will be mandatory for new vehicle registrations, and starting November 1, it will also be required for vehicle purchases. This means both buyers and sellers must complete the biometric process.

The minister highlighted that the initiative aims to increase transparency within the Excise Department and tackle issues related to illegal vehicle transfers and fraudulent activities.

Car registrations can be completed through biometric verification at NADRA e-facilitation centers or district excise offices.

These measures are part of broader reforms aimed at modernizing Sindh’s excise and taxation system, which includes innovations such as enabling vehicle registration at showrooms.
