ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has emphasized that the proposed legislation is critical and should be crafted in the best interest of the country and its people.
In a media talks, PTI Chairman noted, “The draft of the legislation is not available to us yet. We will review it first before making any decisions.”
He added that Maulana Fazlur Rehman had not discussed any offers with them. “Sometimes, accepting a political position is part of the political process,” the PTI leader remarked.
Barrister Gohar further stated that Maulana Fazlur Rehman had taken a principled stance, asserting that any legislation concerning the judiciary should not be excessive.
He also pointed out that Maulana opposed increasing the retirement age of judges and raised concerns about the proposed rotation of Islamabad High Court judges, arguing that it would limit judicial independence. “It would be inappropriate to transfer a judge without their consent,” he added.
Meanwhile, the ruling PML-N is working to gain the support of political parties in Parliament to secure the majority needed to pass the constitutional bill, which has yet to be made public.
