The National Identity Card (NIC) is the primary identification document in Pakistan, assigning a unique identification number to every citizen.
Issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), it is essential for accessing various services, such as obtaining a driver’s license, National Tax Number (NTN), opening a bank account, acquiring a passport, and registering for cellular connections. Every Pakistani citizen aged 18 and above is eligible for an NIC.
The Smart ID Card plays a crucial role in healthcare by linking medical records, and in education by verifying identities for school admissions. It’s also required for obtaining SIM cards. This 13-digit unique number is connected to a centralized system, offering a single recognizable ID, which reduces dependence on birth certificates.
