ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will now hold a rally at Sangjani, Toll Plaza Islamabad on September 8.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that the PTI had selected the venue for the 8th September public gathering, adding that the rally’s site would be notified today or tomorrow.
He said that the PTI must hold the public gathering on Sept 8 at every cost.
Earlier, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) postponed its planned rally in Lahore, originally scheduled for August 27, after local authorities refused to grant permission, despite orders from the Lahore High Court (LHC). This is the second time within a week that the party has had to delay a significant event, having previously postponed a rally in Islamabad.
PTI’s Punjab Information Secretary, Shaukat Basra, stated that the party will seek LHC’s approval to hold the rally after their event in Islamabad. “Our current focus is on the public gathering in Islamabad set for September 8,” Basra said. “Afterward, we plan to organize a rally in Lahore and will file a contempt of court petition against the local administration in the LHC.”
The PTI had initially planned the Islamabad rally for July to demand the release of its founder, Imran Khan, who was arrested over a year ago. However, the event was rescheduled for August 22, only to be postponed again after the Islamabad chief commissioner cited security concerns and limited resources as reasons for denying permission.
Since Khan’s arrest last August on multiple charges, the PTI has encountered significant difficulties in organizing public events. Although higher courts have overturned his convictions in four cases, new charges have kept Khan incarcerated.
