RAHIM YAR KHAN: At least 12 policemen were martyred, and seven others were injured when bandits in the Kacha area launched a rocket attack on their vehicles in a riverine region of Punjab on Thursday.
The tragic incident took place in the Machka area, within one of Rahim Yar Khan’s riverine zones.
According to police officials, two vans carrying over 20 officers became trapped in rainwater when the bandits attacked them with rockets.
The brutal assault resulted in the martyrdom of nearly a dozen officers, with seven others injured and four reported missing, as stated by the police.
President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zaradri and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have strongly condemned attack on Police convoy in Rahim Yar Khan.
In separate statements, they expressed deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of police personnel in the attack.
The both leaders prayed for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks and patience for their families.
They also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured police personnel and directed that they should be provided with the best medical facilities.
The prime minister instructed immediate and effective action against the attackers in the Kacha area.
The Prime Minister has also directed that those responsible for the attack be identified and brought to justice. He commended police officers and personnel for their dedication and courage in combating criminals regardless of personal risk.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday strongly condemned the attack on police vehicles by outlaws in the Katcha area of Machka, Rahim Yar Khan district, Punjab, resulting in the killing of 11 police personnel.
In a statement, Minister Naqvi expressed deep sorrow and regret over the loss of lives and paid tribute to the martyred police personnel.
He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured police personnel.
The Minister extended heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of the martyred police personnel and stood in solidarity with them. He also saluted the police officers who have achieved the highest rank of martyrdom.
